Kiama residents on local social media are calling for Kiama to be listed as a high-risk rock fishing area where life vests are mandatory and not wearing one risks an on the spot fine.
This follows yet another rock fisher swept off rocks near the Kiama Blowhole. Authorities have called off the search for 70-year-old Michael Bui.
There are currently eight declared areas and include Ballina, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and Randwick.
