Kiama Council held its Sorry Day ceremony on Thursday last May 26 at the start of Reconciliation Week. Local Elders Aunty Gwenda and Stan Jarrett provided the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. Earlier in the week Council affirmed the Uluru Statement from the Heart and committed to enacting its principles.
The motion was moved by Councillor Stuart Larkin who has local indigenous heritage.
The motion includes several specific actions by Kiama Council.
These include seeking formal cooperation between the council and local Aboriginal Land Councils and supporting access for local elders to aged care services within Blue Haven.

NAIDOC WEEK this year will be from the 3rd to 10th July 2022 & will celebrate the theme: Get up! Stand up! Show up! The National NAIDOC Committee has also announced the opening of the National NAIDOC poster competition and National NAIDOC Award nominations.
