Kiama Council’s fiscal woes remain in our attention. Unity was key, as councillors gathered last week to facilitate the release of a letter from the NSW Auditor General advising of ‘significant matters’.

The letter also said, “Management, Council and Council’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) have been made aware of all issues in relation to the 2021 audit, but the response has been insufficient to conclude the audit. Work on the audit of Council’s 30 June 2022 financial statements has not commenced”.

The full letter has been published by the Bugle and The Bugle online. The minutes and video recordings of the extraordinary council meeting from last week are accessible on the council website – forward slash – meetings.

Mayor Reilly and CEO Jane Stroud spoke to the state minister for Local Government following the meeting.

The need for decisive action was stressed. Councillors agreed on the necessity to work together to address the financial situation. Ratepayers will be keen to learn of any future impact on rates and fees.
