A light plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Shellharbour Airport last Tuesday morning.

After noticing smoke issuing from one of the aircraft’s engines, the pilot took the appropriate action.

Airservices is modernising the approaches for aircraft arriving at Runway 16/34 at Shellharbour Airport from 15 July as part of a national safety improvement program.

The existing approach to runway 16 will be moved approximately 4 km west of its current location and overlaid with a Baro-VNAV approach.

Baro-VNAV is a technology available on most modern aircraft.

It increases the likelihood of a stabilised approach Some residents may experience an increase in aircraft noise as a result of the new approach.
