If you are a Kiama local, do you know how to say hello and goodbye in the local indigenous language?

In Dharawal – hello is Nagangbi. And goodbye is Nandawanjing.

Local Dharawal woman Dr Jodi Edwards has now published a book all can learn the local language in the Kiama, Shoalhaven and Illawarra areas.

Dr Edwards has been gathering word lists and phrases since 1996 with the full support of local elders. She claims that making the language more accessible will bring a greater appreciation of culture.

The book is called Dharawal: Word, Phrases and Activities – now for sale at Woolworths Shell Cove, Sutherland and Miranda and from Wollongong University at the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre.
