Controversy – after the 2017 mural by Kiama local Mikey Freedom was painted over this week as part of Kiama Vinnies renovations.
Becky Guggisberg of the Blues Festival lamented on ABC Illawarra about what she described as a war on art in Kiama and the Council’s refusal to repurpose the old Kiama Independent building.
There were posts on social media, some hoping the mural would be repainted.
Others suggested that a new mural could be repainted yearly for the Blues and Jazz festival, in the proud tradition of Daisy the Kiama Cow!
Next to Kiama Vinnies, on the other side of Jazz Alley, the popular outlet Chatterbox has closed unexpectedly, but Kiama Community Radio is pleased to announce a new store will arrive shortly called Ambience Haus, that is the German h a u s. Proprietors Melissa and Stash will offer similar lines to Chatterbox including giftware.
The premises share Jazz Lane with Kiama Vinnies and they state they would love to have a mural on their side for the Blues festival!
