Kiama Council has halted the upgrade on that small park alongside Crooked River at Gerroa.
The old playground equipment was removed at Emory Park, and the area was enclosed with security fencing. Locals were hoping to have the park back for Christmas. Not so.
In fact, it may be many, many weeks. Items of significant aboriginal heritage have been discovered.
Mandatory investigations of the site must be undertaken to gather information to provide detail on the cultural significance.
Also, test excavations must be made.
The council says the process may take up to 40 weeks.
