Kiama born Oceana Strachan, and now an international model, has become the Game on Mole Ambassador for the Melanoma Institute after a harmless freckle on her ankle turned out to be a life-threatening stage 2 melanoma.
Oceana said early detection saved her life last year after a lifetime spent sun baking for many hours with no sunscreen.
She had the melanoma removed successfully and now urges people to get regular skin checks to catch cancer early to survive.
Oceana now at 26 is an expectant mother to be and urges everyone to take the melanoma risk in the harsh Aussie sun seriously.
