As NSW Electoral Commission nominations closed last Wednesday for the March 25 poll, the Liberals have (at the 11th hour) named their candidates across seats in the Illawarra. Joel Johnson for Wollongong, Mikayla Barnes, Shellharbour, Noah Shipp, Keira and Melanie Gibbons is to be sacrificed at the electoral altar of Kiama.
The draw for the Kiama electorate ballot paper for the state election has been announced. At the top is Gill for the Sustainable Australian Party, followed by Tonia Gray, Melonie Gibbons, Gareth Ward and Katelin McInerney.
Sky News reports the Premier Dominic Perrott is defending the Liberal Party’s candidate.
Melanie Gibbons put her hand up to be the party’s pick in the Kiama electorate at the final hour. She entered state parliament as the Liberal MP for Menai in Sydney’s south in 2011, before a redistribution saw her win the newly named Holsworthy four years later.
She retained the seat in 2019 with a 3.3 per cent margin but lost Liberal Party preselection to Tina Ayyad in November last year, then unsuccessfully attempted to be placed on the party’s Upper House ticket.
She has commenced the task at hand in Kiama.
