
Shellharbour Ward A residents – back to the polls Saturday, July 30th – to elect two councillors. The requirement to vote again is a decision of the NSW Supreme Court, due to issues with the state’s iVote system.
But there were other issues in the campaign period, described by the Telegraph as a ‘really hard’ pre-poll period and by the Mercury, which told of candidate run over.
The state member for Kiama has written to the NSW Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters requesting consideration of an enquiry into candidate safety, particularly the safety of female candidates.
This follows a claim of an anonymous and intimidating late-night phone call to a candidate. Elections are also being held at the same time at Kempsey and Singleton.
