Friends of Kiama Library talk on Saturday, 06 August – given by Kiama personality Mario Vallejos – about his remarkable journey as a young man from Chile to Australia.
Mario revealed his remarkable journey and the writing of his memoir, Hitchhiker to Australia: Short Stories of a Long Journey of Survival and – Determination to Reach a Far Away Land Without Knowing How to Get There.
Mario was born at the foot of the Andes Mountains in Chile, from where he ventured on a hitchhiking journey to Australia over half a century ago with only $10 in his pocket and about ten words of English.
In the 1980s, Mario started work for Kiama Council and retired as Director of Community Services a decade ago.
