The local Council has congratulated dementia campaigner Val Fell on receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in this year’s Queen’s Birthday awards. Mayor Neil Reilly said the award was well deserved for her advocacy for people living with dementia for many years.
This year Val was appointed to the Council of Elders which was established as one of the recommendations by the Royal Commission into Aged Care.
The award winning Dementia Friendly Kiama initiative has been working to help people living with dementia socialise in their community and have a high quality of life often through the use of simple but useful signage.
