Kangaroo Valley resident Belinda Ingram has called for compulsory rock fishing safety measures everywhere along the coast, 55 years after she lost her brother, father and grandfather rock fishing at Bombo.

In the past five years, the Illawarra has had 13 rock anglers die, and it is the third most common cause of drowning in NSW.

Former Kiama paramedic Bill Carey told ABC Illawarra that he wouldn’t lie awake remembering the Ingram tragedy if helmets, life jackets and anchor points were made compulsory.

Wollongong Council was the only Illawarra council to join the Rock Safety Act in 2018, making life jackets mandatory in high-risk locations.
