Werri Beach-based international artists George Gittoes and Hellen Rose have returned safely this week after spending more than 3 months documenting the war in Ukraine.
They regularly sent images and updates to the Illawarra Mercury during their travels. George said he was concerned that places of culture had been specifically targeted in the bombing.
He was particularly saddened observing locals displaying children’s clothing on their homes to avoid attacks – these were ignored.
George and Hellen are currently working on the upcoming documentary, which will be released within a few months.
